The talk of Alivizos (Loizos) Sofos has a reference point to the main question: How does the teaching of Science alienate so many students from Science?

This question is examined in three parts. In the first part, we examine the learning process as an anthropological phenomenon in the light of knowledge from the neighboring science of neurobiology. In the second, we examine how the education in scientific literacy is shaped in the school context. In the third part, we examine the newer STEAM approach, which we observe in the light of the latest social and economic developments and decisions at the international level.

Alivizos (Loizos) Sofos is a Professor with a major in Pedagogy and Pedagogy of the Media at the University of the Aegean. He teaches pedagogy, media pedagogy, distance education, e-learning, digital literacy and digital video in education at the University of the Aegean, as well as “distance education” in several postgraduate programs (EAP, University of the Aegean, NTUA). He is also the scientific director of the e-Learning team for the development of lifelong learning programs at the University of the Aegean. He is the director of the laboratory “Psychology of Pedagogical Research and Media in Education” and his working group participates in several European programs. From 1996 to 2003 he was a member of the teaching staff of the Pedagogical Department of the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität in Germany, a research associate in the Jugendschutz (Internet Security) network of the 16 German states, and a contract professor at the University of Mainz, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Landau-Koblenz). His books have been published in German and Polish and many of his articles in English.
