This year, the magic of Science Festivals sets sail for the Aegean Sea!

The organization of the first-ever Aegean Science Festival 2021 (AegSF) will take place at Lemnos between the 24th – 26th of September. The Aegean Science Festival aims to highlight the inseparable connection of science and technology with daily life. Its goals include introducing high-quality research taking place in Greece to the public, offering answers to complex scientific issues, inspiring and creating role models in the science community, and of course, inspiring young people to contemplate a career in science. But, above all, the Festival aims to prove to young and old visitors that science is not just about knowledge but having fun as well.

A wide variety of topics from science and humanities will be presented by well-known and prestigious academics, researchers, and educators in an intuitive, attractive, and interactive way. Special focus will be given to events that stress the importance of the following scientific fields:

Machine Learning | Food Science | Renewable Energy Sources | Health | Robotics | STEM Education| Environment | Shipping | Art

The Aegean Science Festival will also host at its opening day the famous Mediterranean Researcher’s Night. This MEDnight event will bring together a consortium that includes research institutions from the regions of the Mediterranean Sea including researchers from institutions of Crete, Lemnos, Italy, Spain, and Malta. The MEDnight is associated with the European Night of Researchers and aims to show the social impact of science that is developed in the Mediterranean.

Organizers

The Aegean Science Festival is organized by the educational organization “Science Communication – SciCo” in collaboration with the Department of Food Science and Nutrition of the Aegean University and various academic, research, and educational institutes.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an exclusively physical festival is not viable. Therefore, the festival will have a hybrid format that includes both online and physical events.
